I keep hearing how good the economy is and how there are so many new jobs out there. So why is it I am going through my second layoff in 14 months? I worked for a temporary agency and impressed someone enough to get hired on full time only to be told last week that my department is being moved and 6 of us would be laid off in February/March. That will give me 3-4 months as a full time employee and now it's back to unemployment. At least that's what my first thought was.
My second thought was, why do I want to go back to work for a company that does not reward hard work, ambition, intelligence, or anything else? It's all about the bottom-line these days and there isn't a safe job out there. The worst part is that a lot of the jobs that are being created are at 1980's wages. I am making the same now as I was when I was in college and the cost of living has gone up dramatically.
So, what options are there out there for those of us that want to be successful, but don't want to make someone else money? The answer is simple. Find your passion in life and figure out how to turn it into a business. There are a lot of businesses already out there, you just need to do a little research. My wife and I have turned our love of fitness and joy of helping others reach their goals into our business and are seeing a lot of success and finding many others that love fitness. We are also turning a passion for wine into another business.
I am going to stay employed if possible for the benefits for now, but as our businesses grow and we are able to help others turn their passions
into jobs, the need for a company to provide benefits will become unnecessary and we will live our life on our terms.
